About Kittens Farting Rainbows

Just hang on. I’ll get to the name in a minute.

This blog started, like most creative ventures, because I was stoned. No, I’m just kidding. I wasn’t stoned. Had I been stoned, I’d not have been able to remember what it was I was going to do and would have instead started a blog named after a flatulent feline. Oh, wait.

No, the blog started because I have a very good friend who lives on the opposite end of the country. We were looking for ways to keep in touch and we thought a blog might be a nice way to share little snapshots of our lives with each other. That sort of morphed into this collective of friends and hangers-on. We’ve got some smart, funny, talented, outspoken, profane, brilliant friends and this is sort of a place for them to hang out and vent. Sort of the cool kids’ table for the uncool kids. Discussion breeds discussion and we like that. We want to hear what you have to say just as much as we want to say it.

What you’ll see is that some days we’ll post a lot, some days not. We’ll have guests from time to time.  We’ll tell you more about ourselves individually. We’ll ask for help, for advice. We’ll talk openly, but not in a tabloid way. For us, it’s like talking to ourselves without people staring at us in the grocery, you know?

Now, the name.

My friend and I are not girly girls. We don’t decorate with teddy bears or potpourri. We’ve never watched the Hallmark channel. We refuse to see movies described as heartwarming. It might go back to when my friend introduced me to her cat, Snowball. Snowball was a beautiful, white, fluffy container of cuteness. When I bent down to pet the wretched creature, it threw up on my shoes. Snowball then became The Incredible Yacking Cat.

Not too long ago, we were discussing something and decided it was so sugary, so sweet, so damned cute that it was like…wait for it…kittens farting rainbows. Now, we’ve discussed other names for the blog. We really, really did not want to name it this. We were envisioning conversations with our parents where we had to first explain a blog and then explain why we called it this. But the name would not leave. It has become a part of us no different from the very fingers that type this entry. KFR is organic. It changes. It grows. KFR is people.

Welcome. We’re glad you’re here.
